About the project:
Transience, a multidisciplinary artwork, draws your attention to microscopic Marine Phytoplankton that produces over half of the oxygen you breathe.
Microscopic organisms have been brought into focus most recently in the form of a virus, Covid 19. However the planet is currently going through a period of global climate change, the pace of which is unprecedented in geological history. The aim of this project is to bring into focus the microscopic world of marine phytoplankton and their importance as bio-indicators of climate change.
‘Transience’ is a conceptual and contemporary approach to creating and sharing artwork that is relevant and responsive to site and considers the dialogue and experience of the viewer.
Massive ephemeral drawings of microscopic phytoplankton inscribed on the sand, augmented by a solo performer, in marine inspired costuming, will focus the viewers’ attention on an unseen world of interconnected ecosystems. This art concept will explore the evolving and changing natural environment and the way art is integral to the creation of meaningful spaces.
